Steven

Steven lives in Tennessee and studied at the Nashville School of Art. He also attended classes under Gregg Kreutz, Michael Shane Neal, and Nelson Shanks. He also have a master's degree in business from Cumberland University.

Steven is influenced most by the works of Andrew Wyeth, Caravaggio, John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn and Jan Vermeer. Imagining the perfect painter he believes that he would have the sense of isolation of Wyeth, the brushwork of Sargent, and the ability to convey light as Caravaggio.

Steven has been painting for over 20 years and during that time he used classically inspired imagery in an attempt to hold on to a single moment in time in his paintings. As much as possible he tries to use the light to pull you in and the composition to hold your focus. Steven considers the process of truly "seeing" the subject as important as the brushwork. Once you get a good connection with the subject that you are painting and are able to really look beyond the surface, the painting can have strength and meaning that goes beyond good brushwork. He hopes that his portrait clients will look closely at their painting, enjoy the composition, and feel that they are looking at a true work of art with them as the subject. If they do then Steven feels that he have succeeded.

Over the years Steven have worked in many mediums - watercolor, acrylic, graphite, and egg-tempera but now works almost exclusively in oil. Oil allows seeing an effect immediately. The paint is so versatile and has such a classic look that when someone completes a good oil painting he believes that it is strong enough to hold its own anywhere beside works of art in any other medium.
